A Love Supreme by John Coltrane

I’m a fan of the traditional jazz sound or what has been called music from the Bee-Bop era. My favorite is of course Mr. John Coltrane and I would put Dexter Gordon right up there next to him as the best of all time. A music composer and fellow student I met back in college introduced me to this form of music and wonderful artistic style.  I enjoyed the wonderful improvisation and creation of something from nothing which brought forth sheer beauty in sound. Jazz appears to be created from emotions and it is usually just music absent vocals kind of speaks to the mystery of it. So in many respects, jazz is abstract and not always understandable in exact terms.

The record or album A Love Supreme was written by Coltrane as an appeal back to his spiritual beliefs and in a way an appeasement to a higher power. Though sounding religious, I don’t believe the intention was to be in the promotion of Christianity, but more a honor of a power greater than ourselves. Every artist I believe needs this to promote the artistic endeavor.

A Love Supreme (Excerpt from the Poem)

I will do all I can to be worthy of Thee O Lord.

It all has to do with it.

Thank you God.

Peace.

This blog is intended to put my artwork on a larger platform (i.e., on the internet) and also a way to connect with other art lovers and other artists as well to collaborate and to generate a dialogue in the creation of art. I paint mainly with acrylics on canvas and have done two styles mainly: Contemporary (abstract artwork) and also portraits. I find both styles intriguing and valuable. I hope you enjoy my site.
